Kathleen Buchanan

Printmaker and painter Kathleen Buchanan creates images that evoke a sense of place and memory. Living on the coast of Maine, she has constant access to a dynamic landscape that shifts endlessly through tides, storm cycles and seasons.

Kathleen’s technique begins with simple collages made from watercolor paper, and acrylic mediums. These collage constructions are inked with oil based etching inks and run through a press that transfers the ink to paper. She typically creates a single plate for each color, building the image one color at a time with each pass through the press. The resulting prints have a simplicity of form and depth of texture that echo the natural environments she loves to depict.
