Mary Barnes' began vacationing in Maine as a child.  She swam in the sea and sailed only when it was windy. From there, her visual world was formed. Her artistic roots are grounded in abstract expressionism. She "loves color with all its complexities". More recently she has shifted her focus to the theme of climate change.  'Pipers' is an elegy and an epilogue for what has been and what is yet to come.
